Colorful Cabo Wedding Weekend at Acre Resort
Some wedding weekends feel less like a series of scheduled events and more like a really great vacation that happens to end with a wedding. Kate and Darren’s weekend in Cabo was exactly that. Four days of friends, sunshine, boats, cocktails, color, and plenty of personality—all culminating in their wedding at Acre.
Rather than centering everything around Saturday, they created an entire weekend for their guests to experience Cabo with them. Each event felt completely different from the last, but there was a sense of ease running through all of it. Nothing felt overly formal or precious. It was thoughtful, incredibly fun, and very them.
Thursday: Golf, Hot Dogs & a Casual Welcome at Hotel Ganzo
The weekend started in perhaps the best way possible: Darren and his friends on the golf course wearing matching hot dog outfits. It immediately set the tone for what was ahead. This was going to be a beautiful wedding weekend, but no one was taking themselves too seriously.
Later that afternoon, everyone began settling into Hotel Ganzo, where Kate and Darren hosted a casual welcome hang in their suite. There was no elaborate production or formal itinerary—just their closest people arriving in Cabo, grabbing a drink and spending time together.
I love when couples build moments like this into a destination wedding. The smaller, less structured gatherings are often where you start to see the relationships between everyone and get a sense of the group before the wedding day even arrives.
Friday Afternoon: Velero’s Beach Club
Friday brought everyone to the water.
Guests traveled by boat to Velero’s Beach Club, turning the journey itself into part of the party. When they arrived, fresh coconuts were waiting for them and the afternoon unfolded by the beach.
Swimsuits, sun hats, tropical drinks and bare feet made this portion of the weekend feel more like a vacation with friends than a traditional wedding event. It also gave Kate and Darren the opportunity to actually spend time with their guests without the timeline and expectations that inevitably come with the wedding day.
It was relaxed, colorful and quintessentially Cabo.
Friday Night: The White Party
By Friday evening, everyone was back at Hotel Ganzo for an entirely different atmosphere.
Kate and Darren hosted their white party on the hotel's rooftop, asking guests to arrive dressed in white while they stood out in blue. Neon accents brought a playful energy to the space and completely transformed the rooftop as the sun went down.
It was one of my favorite visual decisions of the weekend. Against an entire crowd dressed in white, Kate and Darren were immediately recognizable in every photograph without their looks feeling overly coordinated or bridal. The evening felt polished but still had the same sense of fun that had carried through the previous two days.
Saturday: The Wedding at Acre
Saturday morning began back at Hotel Ganzo, where Kate and Darren got ready before heading to Acre for their ceremony and reception.
After days spent along the coast, Acre offered an entirely different side of Cabo. Surrounded by palms and dense tropical greenery, their ceremony felt tucked away within the landscape. The design leaned into the setting with layered tropical florals, sculptural greenery and unexpected hits of yellow, orange and red.
Kate wore an off-the-shoulder gown while Darren chose a light neutral suit with an open-collar shirt—a combination that felt elevated without looking overly formal against Acre's lush surroundings.
The reception continued that balance of sophistication and color. Long tables were layered with soft white linens, pale pink details, warm wood and tropical florals, all set against Acre's graphic tiled floors and greenery. It was beautiful without losing the personality that had defined the rest of the weekend.
And that was really the thread running through all four days.
Kate and Darren created a destination wedding that was as much about giving their friends and family an unforgettable few days together as it was about the wedding itself. From hot dog golf uniforms and boat rides to rooftop parties and a tropical ceremony at Acre, every event gave guests something new to experience.
For me, weekends like this are also why I love photographing destination weddings beyond the wedding day itself. By Saturday, I've already spent time with the couple's closest people. I know the friendships, the personalities and the dynamics of the group. The wedding photographs then become part of a much bigger story—not simply a record of one beautiful day, but of the entire experience that surrounded it.
